Duties & Responsibilities

The office of Judge Executive is the head office for county services.  The Judge Executive also serves on numerous boards of the county, region, and state. The office staff attend numerous training sessions required by state to be able to participate in grant programs, county budget preparation, insurance for the county, updated issues regarding roads, new KRS’s and others mandated by state. The Judge Executive performs marriages, issues, Proclamations, Executive Orders, and others.
 
The office of Judge Executive is responsible for paying all bills incurred by the county, including the road department, animal shelter, jail, recycling, solid waste, 911, emergency management, coroner’s office, dog warden, annex, courthouse, and some recurring bills of the Clerk’s Office, Sheriff’s Department, the County Attorney’s Office, and the PVA’s Office.

The Judge’s office also does the payroll for elected officials, jail, road, 911, recycling, animal shelter, solid waste, emergency management, and dog warden.  The Judge’s office is in charge of the insurance for county employees, county vehicles, workers’ compensation, liability insurance, and personnel property of the county.  Works with the Auditor’s Office with new mandates, GASB 34, and audits.

The Judge’s Office tracks all purchases for the county by a Purchase Order System, including Advertising, Fiscal Court Minutes, Fiscal Court Agendas, and Rent of the Annex Basement.

Collection of Solid Waste Permits; The Judge’s office does all the paperwork for the Fiscal Court Meetings.  They are responsible for Federal Grants, such as the new Justice Center. 

The Judge’s Office also:

  • Works to obtain grants for Adair County including grants for PRIDE which provides free tipping and illegal dump cleanups, and others.
  • Tracks the maintenance needed for county roads.
  • Balances the accounts of the county.
  • Takes care of the maintenance for the courthouse and annex buildings.
  • Works with the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) in Frankfort.
  • Orders supplies needed for the annex/courthouse, recycling, road, solid waste, and overseeing the supplies ordered by the other departments of the county.
  • Works with departments in Frankfort such as the Division of Solid Waste, the Department of Agriculture, the Governor’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and others.
  • Works to obtain permits for new bridges, fireworks, and others.
  • Handles numerous calls each day ranging from complaints, road work, information regarding the county, phone numbers, newspapers, radio stations, missing road signs, school bus turns, and others.
